Fatal hit-run in East LA captured on video

EAST LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Authorities are hoping newly-released surveillance video will help them track down the driver who killed a 22-year-old father and fled the scene.

Anthony Medina was crossing Olympic Boulevard in East Los Angeles at about 7:15 p.m. Thursday when a driver plowed into him.

Witnesses said the suspect's car was clearly traveling faster than others on the road.

People who knew Medina well said his family was his top priority. He cared for his ailing father, wife and 2-year-old daughter Hazel.

"It was horrible, the worst feeling, someone can ever feel," said Medina's brother, Jesse. "It was just devastating watching my innocent little brother get killed like that, he got run over. It's a horrible sight."

Officers are looking for a 2008-2010 blue Subaru Impreza with some damage.

"Witnesses say he briefly stopped for a couple seconds and took off westbound and made a right turn onto North Gearheart," said Officer Juan Galvan of the California Highway Patrol. "He just left him there to die."

Galvan said the Subaru should have some hood damage and possibly some damage to the windshield.

Medina's family said his daughter has been looking for him at home.

"She went through the rooms as if she was looking for him. She just said 'Daddy' and not much more," said Rebecca Quintanilla, Medina's family.

Medina's family wants the suspect to come forward.

"You just destroyed an entire family," Jesse Medina said. "He was my little brother and you just took him from me."
