Safe with $10 million worth of goods stolen in Hancock Park residential burglary

HANCOCK PARK, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Police are seeking suspects in a Hancock Park residential burglary who stole a safe in March believed to be holding valuables worth about $10 million.

LAPD Burglary Special Section Safe Detail detectives are looking for the public's help in identifying at least two suspects in the case.

LAPD officers responded when a home security alarm was activated at 8:20 p.m. Friday, March 16. A neighbor had also reportedly heard noise coming from the residence at the time, located in the 200 block of S. Highland Avenue of the affluent neighborhood.

Police determined the residence had been broken into and property had been stolen.

Investigators believe at least two suspects jumped over a security gate, smashed a glass door on the side of the residence and entered the building. The residence was searched and suspects discovered a safe in a closet. Police believe the suspects used a rug to move the 500 pound safe downstairs and out the front door.

According to the victim, the contents of the safe included personal documents, jewelry and cash valued at about $10 million. Some of the jewelry included unique pieces: a 40-carat diamond necklace, a 20-carat diamond ring, dozens of bracelets, rings and watches.

"Everything that I've ever worked for in 27 years," said the victim, who identified herself only as Jacqueline. "I collected jewelry. Besides the sentimental value, it's just the whole idea of living in an area where you've been violated like this."

Detectives investigating this burglary are asking for the public's help to identify and locate the suspects responsible for stealing the safe. For more information, please call Det.
