Thousands of LA kids get shoes, backpacks at Fred Jordan Mission
DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Thousands of local kids got free school gear at the 24th annual Back-To-School Giveaway at the Fred Jordan Mission in Downtown Los Angeles.
People started lining up as early as 5 a.m. for the event on Thursday.
"As each child comes through today, they'll get the most incredible burger in America, In-N-Out hamburger is back with us again," said Tom Jordan, director of the Fred Jordan Mission.
Children were fitted by Foot Locker employees for a new pair of shoes and socks. The company had dozens of employees on hand, just to make sure everyone was properly sized.
The children also received new clothes, a haircut by Paul Mitchell salons, school supplies and new backpacks.
"People say there's challenges in America, yes there is," Jordan said. "But L.A. is still the greatest city in the world, and it still is the city of angels, evident by today and all the caring friends making this day happen."
The event has helped 105,000 children. For more information, visit the Fred Jordan Mission website.
