LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Los Angeles Animal Control officers and spcaLA busted a cockfighting operation in Compton Saturday.
The location of the cockfighting compound was at a property located at 14612 South Castlegate Avenue.
During the investigation, officers seized 30 to 50 roosters and took 47 people into custody.
Investigators say the suspects were caught actively fighting the birds.
Spectators may face misdemeanor animal cruelty charges.
No information on whether officers found any dead birds or blood in the ring was released. If injured or mistreated birds were found on the property, the charges can escalate to felonies.
