Suspect attempts to sexually assault woman on Cienega in Covina

Police are searching for a man who reportedly tried to sexually assault a woman in Covina Wednesday night.

A female resident of Cienega Garden apartments on 1900 East Cienega Avenue went to the street at 10 p.m. to move her car. She saw a man nearby.

As she was getting into her car, the man approached from behind, covered her mouth and turned her around in an attempt to sexually assault her. The woman pushed him away and screamed. The suspect then fled on foot.

The suspect was last seen traveling eastbound on Cienega.

He was described as a Hispanic man in his early 20s standing approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighing about 175 pounds. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black jeans.

Covina Police say other parts of Covina have seen similar incidents.

Covina Police was working with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department on the case to develop a composite sketch of the suspect.
