Wilmington attempted kidnap has town on alert

Parents in Wilmington are on alert after police say a man tried to kidnap an 11-year-old girl in the neighborhood.

Investigators say the incident happened on the 1100 block of Marine Avenue on Thursday. They say the suspect approached the girl from behind and tried to put her in the trunk of his car.

The girl fought back and was able to escape.

Authorities say the suspect was driving a late 1980s to early 1990s white two-door import vehicle with black bumpers, a faded hood with possible damage to the passenger-side fender.

Police released a sketch of the suspect. The suspect is described as a Hispanic male in his 50s, about 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighing 180 pounds with gray and black hair.
