QUARTZ HILL, LOS ANGELES COUNTY (KABC) -- An auto-theft task force recovered three stolen vehicles and arrested a chop-shop owner, returning one of the cars to its original owner in better condition than when it was stolen.
Taskforce for Regional Auto Theft Prevention (T.R.A.P.) detectives from the L.A. County Sheriff's Department acted on information they received about three stolen classic vehicles in July.
Detectives served a search warrant at a residence on the 4600 block of West M-12 in unincorporated Quartz Hill in the Lancaster area on July 24. They impounded four vehicles at the location.
Three had vehicle identification numbers changed, and were identified as stolen:
-- 1958 Chevrolet Impala convertible stolen in March 2007 from Mission Hills area
-- 1955 Chevrolet Bel Aire stolen in May 2011 from Santa Monica area
-- 1960 Chevrolet Impala, stolen in April 2011 from Monrovia area
Resident Don Faison was not at the location when the search warrant was served in July.
During a follow-up investigation Wednesday, Faison was located and arrested at his home for operating a chop shop, a felony.
The owner of the 1958 Chevrolet Impala had no insurance for the car when it was stolen in March 2007. The vehicle had been completely restored from the frame up, including new paint and upholstery.
