Disney labor protest ends in 32 arrests

ANAHEIM, Calif. (KABC) -- A labor protest outside of Disneyland ends with 32 arrests, including people dressed up like Disney characters.

The group is involved in a labor dispute with Disneyland.

More than 600 protesters marched from a Disney-owned hotel to try and block the entrance to the park.

The employees were waving placards and chanting slogans, calling on Disneyland to provide better wages and benefits. Some of the protestors dressed as Disney characters like Tinkerbell, Aladdin and Mickey Mouse.

Most followed police orders to clear the street, but some were arrested when they refused to move.

This is the 15th protest at Disneyland since the start of the labor dispute.

"Unfortunately, they are already low-paying jobs, and the company wants to churn them. It's a poverty job, and we need to take a stand in this community," said union president Ada Briceno.

The dispute involves nearly 2,300 workers from the park's three main hotels, including cooks, dishwashers and maids, who have been without a contract since February.

A Disney spokeswoman says the company is searching for a fair agreement with the union and called the event a simple publicity stunt.

Disney is the parent company of ABC7.
