Woman hit by 2 cars, dragged 50 feet

Thursday, December 04, 2008

A 23-year-old pedestrian was killed after being run over by two cars near Knott's Berry Farm in Buena Park on Thursday.

Police said a vehicle hit the woman at about 5:20 a.m. on Beach Boulevard between La Palma Avenue and the 91 Freeway. The driver did not stop and fled the scene.

The woman was on the roadway when a second vehicle hit her and dragged the woman about 50 feet before stopping and calling 911, said Sgt. Bill Kohanek from the Buena Park Police Department.

Beach Boulevard was shut down for several hours as authorities investigated.

Police are looking for the driver of the first car that hit the woman, saying that driver is the one who is at fault.

Because the victim was not crossing at a crosswalk, the driver that first hit her would not have been charged, but since that person fled the scene, it has now turned into a felony hit-and-run case.

Anyone who may have seen the accident is urged to call the Buena Park Police Department's traffic division at (714) 562-3942.
