A woman in Tustin was killed in an apartment fire and a neighbor suffered serious injuries trying to save her.

The flames broke out in the 15000 block of Williams Street shortly before 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The fire was mostly contained to a second-floor apartment.

The neighbor suffered burns while trying to rescue the woman, who died while on the apartment's balcony. That neighbor was taken to an area hospital in serious condition.

There was no word on how the fire began. The cause was under investigation.
