El Rancho teacher sentenced for kissing, hugging 14-year-old student

SANTA ANA, Calif. (KABC) -- An English teacher from El Rancho Charter School in Anaheim Hills has been sentenced to one year in jail.

This comes after the teacher pleaded guilty to two felony counts of lewd and lascivious acts upon a child between the ages of 14 and 15.

In addition to the year sentence, Joshua Evans also got three years of probation and will have to register as a sex offender.

The 33-year-old met with the 14-year-old girl at least three times at another student's home. On two of those occasions, investigators said Evans kissed the girl on the mouth and embraced her. The incidents occurred between December 2011 and January 2012.

Authorities said Evans also emailed and text messaged the girl.

Evans was arrested after the girl's mother found out and told school officials.
