Coyote attacks 2-year-old girl at Cypress cemetery

Tuesday, July 23, 2013

A 2-year-old girl was hospitalized after being bitten and dragged by a coyote at a cemetery in Cypress.

Authorities say Klarissa Barrera was about 10 feet from her mother on Thursday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in the 4400 block of Lincoln Avenue when the animal attacked, dragging her toward some bushes.

According to the Orange County Register, the coyote let go of the girl when the mother screamed and lunged.

The girl received a rabies shot and was treated for a gash on her leg. She is expected to be OK.

Fish and Wildlife officials later shot and killed three coyotes at the cemetery. Officials believe one of the coyotes was behind the attack.
