LOS PADRES NATIONAL FOREST, Calif. (KABC) -- Expanded fire restrictions go into effect in Los Padres National Forest Wednesday. This comes as the hot, dry weather continues and the fire danger increases.
The new restrictions include a ban on smoking in all areas of the forest, except within buildings, campfire use sites, and enclosed vehicles. There is also a ban on target shooting anywhere, except the Winchester Gun Club in Santa Barbara County and the Ojai Valley Gun Club in Ventura County.
Restrictions already in place include:
- Open fires, campfires, and charcoal fires are permitted only in campfire use sites and must be attended at all times.
- Internal combustion engines may be operated only on roads or trails designated for such use.
- A valid California Campfire Permit is required for portable stoves and lanterns using gas, jellied petroleum, or liquid fuel.
The San Bernardino National Forest imposed similar expanded restrictions last month.
The fire rules in Los Padres National Forest will remain in effect until the end of fire season, which comes once the forest receives at least two inches of rainfall.
