Woman wearing scrubs, wig attempts home-invasion robbery in Ventura

Wednesday, July 11, 2012

A suspect wearing a wig and medical scrubs was arrested for attempting a home-invasion robbery in Ventura on Tuesday.

Authorities responded to a report of a disturbance and a possible shot fired at a home on Mission Plaza Drive at 3:07 p.m. Upon arrival, officers found two people struggling over a gun on the porch.

Police were able to break up the fight before anyone was injured.

Officers say 50-year-old Victoria Austin of Oak Park walked into the house through an unlocked front door, wearing medical scrubs, a wig, a mask and rubber surgical gloves. She pointed a gun at the homeowner and demanded money.

When Austin allegedly pointed the gun at the homeowner's disabled son, the homeowner punched Austin, causing the gun to go off and fire a round into the ceiling. The two struggled over the gun until police arrived.

Austin was booked at Ventura County Jail. No one was injured in the incident.
