Sunday, September 23, 2012

A homeless man was hospitalized after being shot while in a vagrant encampment in Ventura on Saturday night.

Authorities say Eric Nestroyl, 43, was in the Santa Clara River Bottom at Harbor Boulevard when he was shot in the leg at about 8:40 p.m. He called out to a passerby, who called police.

Nestroyl was taken to Ventura County Medical Center, where he was treated and released.

Officers searched the area but were unable to find the shooting suspect. Authorities say Nestroyl did not see the suspect.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to call the Ventura Police Department at (805) 339-4343, or Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS.
