Former New England Patriot Aaron Hernandez has been linked to a shooting in Boston that left two men dead, according to a search warrant filed in Connecticut.

Daniel Jorge Correia de Abreu and Safiro Teixeira Furtado were shot and killed by gunfire hailing from an SUV in Boston's South End in July 2012. Aquilino Freire, a third man who was shot inside the car, survived. According to the warrant, police believe Hernandez was inside the SUV when the men were shot.

The new search warrant, filed in Bristol Superior Court and dated Dec. 11, does not indicate who police believe fired the gun, or suggest a motive. No charges have been filed in the case.

Hernandez's attorney was not immediately available for comment Wednesday.

Hernandez came under scrutiny in the shooting following his arrest in the slaying of Odin Lloyd, a semi-professional football player whose body was found June 17 near Hernandez's North Attleborough, Mass., home. Hernandez has pleaded not guilty to murder in that case.

Police later found the SUV wanted in the Boston shooting at a Bristol, Conn., home belonging to Hernandez's uncle.

The warrant sought recordings of phone calls made by a Hernandez associate, Alexander Bradley, while Bradley was jailed in Hartford in October for failing to appear before a Massachusetts grand jury investigating the 2012 shooting.

While detained in Hartford, Bradley was informed that his calls were being monitored. A correctional officer who was monitoring the calls alerted Bristol police that he believed Bradley talked about details of the shooting during calls to people whom police did not identify. That led police to apply for the search warrant.
