Amber Alerts available wirelessly

Friday, May 23, 2008

With California's Amber Alert system proving to be very effective, state officials have decided to expand it.

Friday the California Highway Patrol introduced its new "wireless" Amber Alert system.

Under the new system, people can receive Amber Alerts in the form of text messages on their cellular phones.

You have to sign up for the service. However, it's totally free.

Anyone can receive the alerts. You do not have to be part of a law enforcement agency.

Since it was created six years ago, the California Amber Alert system has safely located 148 children.
