Salon beating posted on Internet

Thursday, June 11, 2009

Oakland police are reopening an investigation of a group assault after video of the attack was posted on the Internet.

Melissa Seals says she was cutting a customer's hair last month at her Oakland beauty shop when six women came into the store. One of them, a friend, started hitting her because of a dispute over a boyfriend.

"It happened so fast, but when I seen it I couldn't believe it," Seals said. "I didn't even remember what happened to me until I seen it on YouTube."

Two women took turns beating her, while another records the whole thing with a video camera. Others just watch.

Oakland police spokesperson Jeff Thomason says the YouTube video will be valuable evidence against the women involved in this attack.

"It's very disturbing to see that kind of attack take place in the city of Oakland, and obviously we want to get these people in custody," Thomason said.
