July 11, 2006 (KABC) -- It's called the Champagne Facial because basically it's taken from extract that's taken from the pinot grape. Sure, it's a once in a while luxury at a $150 dollars a pop, but its benefits are skin deep, explains Samantha Telesford, Ritz-Carlton Spa, Pasadena.
Aside from the fact that it helps to refine and infuse the skin with moisture, it's very good at protecting the skin from environmental polutants.
What I learned at the spa is that it all starts at home. The exfoliation is probably the most important steps for any facial.
A lot of the time what you tend to find is that when you're at home, you'll do the cleansing portion, the mask. But for the body, the more you exfoliate the better. The dead skin prevents the goodness of the product from getting to where it needs to.
So I looked at some of the at home kits that aim to give you day at the spa glow.
It's a simple process. We can go from a mask that you can leave on your face from ten to fifteen minutes and just wash off. Or we can get more complicated like dermo polishes at home, says Anna Chung, Macy's Cosmetics.
The Estee Lauder Micro-D exfoliates your dead skin, and it's a gentle alternative to micro dermabrasion.
Your skin feels soft and nice just from one application. At $46 dollars a tube, it's a bargain compared to a one-time visit to a dermotologist's office which can run over $100 dollars. Lancome has a dermo polish system, as well as Prescriptives. Both run in the $100 dollar range but are good for multiple applications.
And Hollywood's trade secret is out! The ten minute eye mask from Shishedo Cosmetics.
