Eye on L.A.'s Australian adventure
LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- From the Great Barrier Reef to the Sydney Opera House and the rainforest to the wine country, Eye on L.A.'s Tina Malave and Rachel Smith went on an ultimate adventure: a one-week walkabout in Australia.
Some of the best food, the best shopping and the best sight-seeing is in Melbourne. Rivaling the country's largest city, Sydney, Melbourne is quite the metropolis itself with millions of people of all different ethnicities. Tina took a tour of the must-see city, visiting Australia's celebrity chef Guy Grossi at Grossi Florentino, dining at The Colonial Tramcar Restaurant and exploring the Laneways [Watch video].
Eureka Skydeck on Level 88 is the highest public vantage point in Melbourne and the Southern Hemisphere. Level 88 is the home to a state of the art Observation Deck offering unparalleled views of the city and surrounds. Take in magnificent 360 degree views through floor to ceiling glass windows, from the city center to the Dandenong Ranges and across Port Phillip Bay. Tina took an adventure to the top of the Eureka Skydeck [Watch video].
Climbing to the top of the Sydney Harbor Bridge is a must-do for your first visit to Australia. Rachel shows you what it looks like from the top, then hit the famous Bondi Beach for a little surfing and sail around the harbour [Watch video].
Australia offers many outdoor adventures, including amazing wildlife and stunning rainforests. Tina went to the northeastern part of Australia and Queensland to experience the Daintree Rainforest, where she saw the actual tree that is said to be the model for the tree in the movie "Avatar," and went eco-hunting for kangaroos and koalas in the wild [Watch video]. She also had some fun with the animals down under in the moonlight at the Cairns Night Zoo [Watch video].
Australia has more than 60 different wine regions and a thriving wine industry. Tina headed up to the Yarra Valley just outside Melbourne and did a little tasting at DeBortoli Winery, named the 2010 Australian Wine Company of the Year [Watch video].
When you visit Australia, one thing you absolutely can't miss is one of the seven natural wonders of the world, the Great Barrier Reef. Tina explored the breath-taking site [Watch video].
Finally, the protruding sea-shells of the Sydney Opera House were built to be a world-famous landmark. Rachel took a tour of the iconic opera house [Watch video].
You can personalize your next trip to Australia easily. It's not as far, or as expensive, as you might think! Try a Qantas Walkabout Pass, http://www.qantas.com.au. Learn more about Australia and all the places you don't know about down under at http://www.australia.com.
