LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- ABC7, State Farm, LADWP (Los Angeles Department of Water and Power) and our community partners want to help you be prepared in the event of a disaster, natural or man-made, by providing you with one central web hub to attain emergency preparedness information and resources.
The ABC7 Ready SoCal campaign kicks-off on Monday, Sept. 8 and will continue through the month of Sept. coinciding with National Emergency Preparedness Month.
Ready SoCal wants viewers to be prepared by:
- Creating a family communication plan
- Preparing an Emergency Go-Kit
- And knowing how to shelter-in-place
You can learn about how to prepare for a disaster by downloading the following Ready SoCal Disaster Preparedness brochure, offered in English, Spanish, and Korean.

You can also pick up a copy of the brochure at any of our community partners locations or at various community events. In addition to picking up your brochure at these agencies, you will also be able to pick-up a water proof "Emergency Document Holder" which lists all of the important documents you will need in an emergency in both English and Spanish.
The Great Southern California ShakeOut
The Great Southern California ShakeOut is a week of special events featuring the largest earthquake drill in United States history, organized to inspire Southern Californians to get ready for big earthquakes, and to prevent disasters from becoming catastrophes. What we do now, before a big earthquake, will determine what our lives will be like after. The ShakeOut drill will occur in houses, businesses, and public spaces throughout southern California at 10AM on November 13, 2008.
Free registration at www.ShakeOut.org/register will pledge an individual's or a group's participation in this important preparedness event. Participants will receive information on how to prepare for the inevitable major earthquake in the region and what actions to take during and after the shaking.
Tips on how to prepare for a natural disaster:
- McMillan: Fire-ready home
- Holguin: Emergency kit
- Lara: Earthquake-ready house
- Romero: Store crucial documents
- Pennacchio: Preparing for a disaster
