Before the L.A. debut of the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical "In the Heights," Vista L.A. spoke to show creator Lin-Manuel Miranda. Miranda, who was part of the original cast, will reprise the starring role for the show's run at the Pantages Theater in Hollywood.

Latinos in entertainment

Two non-profit organizations are leading the way in opening doors for Latinos in the entertainment world. Each year, the National Council of La Raza (NCLR) hosts the Alma Awards, which celebrate the achievements of Latinos in music, film and television. The National Association of Latino Independent Producers (NALIP) hosts an annual conference for filmmakers and industry professionals interested in Latino media.

The Bratt Family project: "La Mission"

Vista L.A. caught up with actor Benjamin Bratt and his brother Peter Bratt to chat about what it's like to work together on their film "La Mission." Benjamin plays the lead role in the movie, while his brother is the writer and director.

Jaime Escalante memorial

The Latino community recently lost one of its heroes, legendary East Los Angeles math teacher Jaime Escalante. Besides inspiring thousands of students to pursue careers in math and engineering, Escalante also inspired the script for the movie "Stand and Deliver." At Escalante's memorial service, Vista L.A. spoke with former students and actor Edward James Olmos, who portrayed the educator in the movie.

Chef Hugo Molina

The mastermind behind the Asian and Spanish influenced menu at Seta, a new restaurant in Whittier, is award-winning Executive Chef Hugo Molina. Chef Molina, along with his wife Aricia Alvarado and daughter Annaiiz, also take Vista L.A. to their cooking class for kids at the Boys & Girls Club in Whittier. Chef Molina encourages students to explore new tastes and teaches them about healthier options.
