Wild wind continues to howl across Southland

PORTER RANCH, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- The wild winds are sticking around the Southland, whipping up debris and creating hazardous driving conditions.

Strong winds have made it tough for residents in the higher elevations, including Santa Clarita and Antelope Valley. Gusts knocked down power lines in Lancaster, cutting electricity for area residents.

The winds are also kicking up a lot of sand and dust, making visibility low on the roadways. Gusty conditions create a big hazard for motorists, especially those driving in high-profile vehicles.

Many say they're tired of the wind and are looking forward to a change in weather for the better.

"It blows an awful lot of stuff around, it makes my security light go on all night long, the dogs bark because they hear rustling all night long. It's really hard on allergies," said Berta Gonzalez-Harper from Santa Clarita.

The wind advisory for the Antelope Valley is expected to last until 9 p.m. Thursday. A high wind warning for the mountains areas in Los Angeles and Ventura counties was expected to expire at about 9 a.m.
