NEWHALL, SANTA CLARITA (KABC) -- A 3.9-magnitude earthquake hit near the Newhall area Sunday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The temblor first registered as a 3.8 but was quickly upgraded to a 3.9 by USGS. It struck about 4 miles east-southeast of the Newhall area in Santa Clarita with a depth of about .5 miles. The quake was centered about 5 miles north-northwest of San Fernando.
The Eyewitness Newsroom felt a jolt, and reports also came in from Burbank, Studio City, downtown Los Angeles, Pacoima and Hollywood. Shaking was also felt across the Santa Clarita Valley, where sheriff's dispatchers say there were no calls reporting any injuries.
Two small earthquakes with magnitudes 1.8 and 2.2 were recorded in the San Fernando area shortly after the Newhall quake. Another 2.5 magnitude earthquake registered in the same area in Newhall at 9:21 a.m. PT followed by yet another 1.9 magnitude quake near San Fernando.
Per normal procedure, the Los Angeles Fire Department was put on earthquake emergency mode following the quake. After surveying neighboring areas, the fire department confirmed there was no major damage as a result of the temblor.
Much earlier in the day shortly after midnight, a 3.9-magnitude struck the Valle Vista area in the Inland Empire. No damage was reported.
