Sepulveda brush fire still smoldering; crews keep watch over hot spots
LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Firefighters are keeping a close eye on hot spots to make sure the Sepulveda Pass brush fire doesn't spread any further.
Los Angeles firefighters say the fire spread somewhat overnight, scorching a total of 90 acres as of Saturday morning. The blaze is still holding at about 40 percent containment, and fire officials say they don't expect full containment until sometime Sunday.
The fire ignited at around 3:30 p.m. Friday on the east side of Sepulveda Boulevard near Getty Center Drive. More than 100 firefighters rushed to the scene, and many remained overnight to keep a close eye on the situation.
Friday, emergency crews issued a voluntary evacuation in the area and the Getty Center was closed as a precaution. No one was hurt, and no homes were damaged. The focus on Saturday is keeping the hot spots in check. The weather is also a concern - the hot and dry conditions are not helping the firefight.
The Getty Center Drive ramps on both directions of the 405 Freeway remain closed as of Saturday afternoon.
Arson investigators will assess the scene to help determine the cause of the fire.
