A fire that began during a training exercise on the Camp Pendleton Marine Base has burned more than 1,000 acres.

At last report, it was just 30 percent contained.

Marine officials say that the fire is moving rapidly north toward an area where the Southern California base borders the Cleveland National Forest.

The fire began on Friday in an area often used for artillery training. No injuries have been reported.
