Brush fire breaks out near Magic Mountain in Valencia

VALENCIA, Calif. (KABC) -- Firefighters are battling a brush fire fanned by gusty winds near Magic Mountain in Valencia.

Authorities responded to the third-alarm fire just before 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at 26101 Magic Mountain Parkway. Though it burned within a few years, officials said the park was not in danger and firefighters were able to keep it contained to a small valley.

By 11 p.m., the fire had burned at least 149 acres and was fully contained, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Crews planned to work all night on the mop-up.

Air tankers responded to the scene to help with the fire fight. They were scooping up water from a pond at a nearby golf course. Fire crews were also sent to the Stevenson Ranch area for structure protection.

According to a Magic Mountain spokesperson, the park remains open, but one ride was closed to give access to the fire department.

About 80 miles away, crews in Santa Barbra County were battling a brushfire that burned more than 1,800 acres. The fire broke out Monday and it forced the evacuation of hundreds of campers, many forced to leave their camping gear behind. The county fire department said 75 people were evacuated from nearby homes.

In Simi Valley, firefighters responded quickly to a wind-driven brush fire that was brought under control at about 2 p.m. Tuesday. In all, only about 8 acres burned and no structures were threatened.
