Opposition in Kings County already prompted the California High-Speed Rail Authority to move its proposed route from East of Hanford to West of Hanford.
The California Department of Toxic Substances Control said it has fined Chemical Waste Management $311,194 for failure to notify the department of 72 spills at its Kettleman City facility between 2008 and 2012.
Three of the four new substations are in existing buildings. If the county were to build brand new ones it would cost several million dollars, instead the sheriff's office uses the buildings for free.
