Parole granted for one of three Chowchilla bus kidnappers

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Many in the Chowchilla community are upset after one of the men convicted in the 1976 Chowchilla bus kidnapping was granted parole.

Richard Schoenfeld is scheduled to be released ten years from now, in 2021. He, his brother James Schoenfeld, and friend Fred Woods kidnapped 26 Chowchilla school children and their bus driver, and buried them underground for ransom.

The sitting governor in 2021 will have the right to overturn the parole decision.

James Schoenfeld and Fred Woods have not been granted parole.
