FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- California farmers produced less vegetables in 2011 than in the previous year
A report by the U.S. Department of Agriculture suggests the numbers still put the state as the leading grower of fresh vegetables in the U.S.
California produced 11-million tons of vegetables in 2011. That number is down one-percent from 2010's totals.
California accounts for half of the vegetable production in the U.S.

An organic farming survey is being carried out across the country.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture is gathering information on organic farming in the U.S. The survey is expected to last until April.
The U.S.D.A. hopes the results will help improve federal crop insurance and raise incentives for organic producers. Organic growers will be getting the survey by mail, but can respond via the internet, mail, or telephone.
