U.S. Chili farmers across face fierce overseas competition

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Ag officials say chili cultivation in the United States is falling and farmers are forced to compete with cheaper exports. Competition from Mexico, China, and India is growing and labor costs there means the produce is very cheap. The competition is getting so intense that last year lawmakers in New Mexico tried to pass a law that would make it illegal to label chili grown elsewhere as "New Mexican."

Ag officials say America's chili quality is the key to dealing with competition.
