Fresno, CA (KFSN) -- The ailing U.S. economy is creating a new generation of 'stay-at-home' dads. The recession has dealt a big blow to male-dominated fields leaving many more men in the unemployment line.

Stay-at-home dads now have web sites such as fresnodadsclub.com, blogs such as "Rebel Dad" and "A Man Among Mommies," support groups and even an annual convention. They are showing up in "mommy and me" classes and P.T.A. meetings.
In fact, the Census Bureau shows the trend of men choosing to be at home with their children has grown by 60-percent over the last 4 years
Robert Dalton stays at home with his 2-year-old daughter Anniston and cares for his older daughter Allison after school while his wife Emily goes to work.
These tough times have been dubbed by some as a "he-cession," especially because men account for about 80-percent of the jobs lost during this downturn.
Male-dominated fields such as manufacturing and construction have taken huge hits; as a result, more men are joining the stay-at-home dad ranks.
"Since the economy's gone south, not quite as many jobs to be done out there and so I just took the opportunity to stay home with this one full time," said stay-at-home dad Robert Dalton.
Stay-at-home dads say they often face isolation and negative reactions and stereotypes, mostly from other parents!
Childcare experts claim families like the Daltons need to re-define roles and be flexible.
Dalton said although this is not quite how he envisioned his life; he is getting used to the perks. "I mean, it was a big adjustment at first but I love the satisfaction I get out of this job. Best boss I ever had."
If you're thinking of becoming a stay-at-home dad, here are some questions you and your partner need to consider:
Which parent earns more money?
Who has the better health insurance policy?
Who stands to lose more by taking time off from his or her career?
And can either parent switch to part time or work at home?
