FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- More than a thousand kids walked away with new backpacks filled with school supplies on Saturday.
Celebration Church partnered with local businesses for their third annual backpack giveaway.
Food vendors and a bounce house filled the Manchester Center parking lot in Central Fresno.
Organizers say they wanted to focus on elementary aged students by reaching out to families who might need a little help going into the new school year.
"Really trying to provide something for the family that maybe have been hit by the economy. The recession has maybe been a struggle for them. We're just providing a backpack with school supplies equipping children for the school year that's coming up," Fred Negrete of Celebration Church said.
Celebration Church ended up running out of backpacks but went out and purchased more to make sure everyone in line walked away with a new backpack to start the new school year.
