FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Hundreds of people are expected to head to Downtown Fresno as Club One Casino hosts its second annual Summer Splash.
Starting Friday night, Van Ness Street in between Fresno and Tulare Streets will be shut down and transformed in a beach getaway.
"I think it's speaking to a lot of renewed interest in the downtown activity. The downtown partnership that was recently formed and is being supported by the merchants themselves," Al Smith, president of the Fresno Chamber of Commerce, said.
Smith said Summer Splash comes on the heels of several other great events this summer like the Taco Throwdown. Events like these help attract people of all ages and interests downtown.
"I think what they're doing downtown right now is very very exciting. It's good toward the revitilization of the core of our community, which is very important," Smith said.
Nearby downtown businesses like Los Panchos Mexican Restaurant are hoping for a big turnout this weekend. Last year more than 5 thousand people went to the beach party and some visited nearby businesses.
"We hope that we get packed and busy all day and just have fun with the people too and we hope that business is going to be okay that day," Ana Lilia de Alba of Los Panchos said.
The business hopes events such as the summer splash will draw more more people to downtown and the boost the economy.
"Cause sometimes its kind of slow so it's good for downtown and for everything," Lilia said.
