Environment News (KFSN) -- A Northeast Fresno Church hosted a presentation on sustainable living Sunday, and invited its neighbors to share their stories as one example.
Residents of La Querencia explained what co-housing is all about at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Fresno, which is located next door to the community.
The people of La Querencia live in energy efficient homes that are also built with green materials, but they're also committed to social sustainability.
They all know their neighbors, and share meals and common spaces within the community.
" People are often weary and concerned, wondering about what this is, but I think when you come and visit the community, which is what we encourage people to do, you feel that sense of, it really is an old fashioned neighborhood and it's a really great group of people. That's what we want people to do, to come by and take a look at it," said Project Manager Katie McCamant.
La Querencia's project manager was also the architect of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Fresno. It, too, was built on the concept of sustainable living.
