November 18, 2005 -- A former South Valley teacher convicted of having sex with three students may avoid prison time.
Former Tulare Western High School teacher Elizabeth Stow had nothing to say after a judged sentenced her to nine years in prison. The sentence was suspended. She now faces a year in custody, five years probation and must register as a sex offender.
Although Stow's attorney was relieved by the decision, but Tulare County prosecutors felt the sentence sends the wrong message to students.
Stow will begin her one-year sentence in about a month, which could be served either under house arrest or in prison.
