Charges Filed in MySpace Fight Video Investigation
July 6, 2006 -- Charges have been filed against an adult in the case of a fight posted on the internet. In April, a street fight between two young women was videotaped and posted on the website MySpace.com.
The district attorney filed a criminal complaint and a judge approved a warrant for the arrest of the mother of one of the girls in that fight on Thursday.
It was the culmination of an investigation that hinges on evidence pulled from the internet.
Police say Syreeta Fuller's daughter was the one throwing most of the punches on the video, and now Fuller faces possible jail time for the fight in April that was videotaped and posted on the MySpace.com website.
The district attorney's office is charging Fuller with two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, two counts of child endangerment and one count of battery.
Diane Thrower's 13-year-old daughter was on the losing end of the fight, while the other girl's mother, Fuller, appeared to be watching.
"I just don't understand how this woman could entice two kids to get into a fight," said Thrower. "It's against the law, it's against the law and she should be punished for it."
"It's very rare, where you're actually seeing crimes being committed on videotape and you see the trauma being inflicted on a child," said Captain Keith Foster, from the Fresno Police Department.
Police say the person who shot the videotape had a critical role in the investigation, but authorities won't say whether that person will face any charges.
Despite the disturbing images, police say the seven minute long video will be key if the case goes to trial.
There are also arrest warrants out for two other men. Police say they pulled guns on the victim's mother when she went to try to talk to Fuller about the fight.
Police say the girl could also face charges, but the district attorney won't discuss them because she's a minor.
