Scandal Rocks Clovis West Athletics

Thursday, February 01, 2007

Action News has learned two of the Clovis West Soccer team's top players have been suspended from the team because of fraud with the scholastic aptitude test, or S.A.T. The two players in question are Alex Lloyd, the teams standout goalie and forward Ben Milam.

The Golden Eagles are the reigning Valley champs and national champions. The team was profiled earlier this month in Sports Illustrated magazine.

Action News has learned the fraud involves Lloyd twice taking the S.A.T on behalf of Milam. A false identification was used on testing day.

Clovis Unified School District's Director of Communications, Kelly Avants, told Action News Wednesday night, "Clovis West and the Clovis Unified School District are currently investigating the report of a testing irregularity regarding the administration of the S.A.T. test that was reported to us. This is an allegation we take extremely seriously and we are pursuing every means available to us to determine appropriate consequences."

Administrators at Clovis West told Action News they could not comment on the matter.

The Golden Eagles are currently ranked 11th in the nation, they are 6 -1 in league play with 2 matches remaining in the season.

The allegations have cost Milam his scholarship to play soccer next year at Cal. Ben Milam is the son of Action News Anchor Liz Harrison.

Clovis West did play Wednesday without Lloyd and Milam and they won 3 to 1.
