Giuliani to Speak at World Ag Expo

Friday, February 09, 2007

This massive cotton picker was shipped in separate pieces from Wisconsin and put together on the grounds here over the last few days. It's also the backdrop for where presidential hopeful, Rudy Giuliani, will be speaking on Tuesday. Volunteers will be working for 8 days straight to prepare for the event.

Volunteers worked all day to sweep away chips and create a pathway leading to the small stage where former NYC mayor and likely Republican Presidential Candidate Rudy Giuliani will speak on Tuesday. Though the stage is a modest 4 by 6 feet wide, the security will be tight.

Bruce Shannon, 2007 Chairman World Ag Expo, says, "Somebody with Rudy's stature, we might even be in contact with the CIA or the Secret Service."

After Giuliani speaks at the opening ceremony and tours the grounds, he'll come here to this area and give a small press conference to a thrilled audience.

Kevin Pinkerton, Case I-H, says, "You can tell there's already excitement building and people are coming around to see so it should be really exciting to have him here."

But he's not the only star making an appearance at this year's World Ag Expo, brand new farm equipment with the highest technology will be on display and volunteers are working to clean, paint and polish the machines so they can look shiny and new.

Bruce Shannon says, "I mean they want that tractor that piece of farm equipment to look like a car on a show room floor and it literally will it'll sparkle the day of the show opens."

Ag expo workers also expect representatives from over 50 countries. They've set up a special committee of 30 people who can speak up to three languages and translate for the officials.

"Obviously when those folks come to the show we've got to have translations so they can speak to us and find out we find out what they need and they find out what we have, " says Shannon.

Next week, the Valley is expecting a series of storms to hit our area. Ag Expo employees say they are hoping it will rain a little before and during the show, to get farmers out of the fields and onto the expo grounds.
