03/09/2007 (KFSN) -- Supporters of the War in Iraq made a stop in Fresno. A group called Move America Forward says it's tired of criticism of the war and has launched its own campaign.
The Move America Forward caravan, consisting of a rented RV, some rental trucks and a couple of SUV's made a brief stop in front of the convention center. It's all part of a planned national tour to raise support for the war in Iraq.
The small crowd this caravan attracted heard a patriotic song and a speech by a woman who lost her son in Iraq. One of the caravan organizers, Deborah Johns has a son serving in Iraq. She says, "The purpose of the tour is to let congress know the American people support what our military men and women are doing over there in Iraq, and we're not gonna cut and run."
This tour started in San Francisco, and quickly ran into controversy in Lafayette when a man was insulted to see his dead sons name on one of the crosses and took it off.
In Fresno, Darnesha Perkins came out to support the troops . Her husband, an Army reservist has been in Iraq for a year and a half. And unlike the members of Move America Forward group she likes the idea of a timetable to bring the troops home. She says, "They're really tired and exhausted and a lot of them are ready, just ready to come home and see their families."
Move America Forward was created by a public relations firm in Sacramento which has close ties to the Republican Party. The caravan's next stop is Bakersfield. They eventually plan to make it to Washington D.C.
