Growing Happiness Gap Between Men and Women

Thursday, September 27, 2007

Results from studies say women appear to be less happy than men, a total reversal from just a few decades ago.

Most women say they're unhappy with their lives.

Researchers were a little surprised since opportunities and choices have increased for women in the modern world.

Some experts say balancing a career and family could be a key reason for being unhappy.

"If you are at work and feel torn, you should be home. If you are home, you feel you should be at work. If you cut back your hours as a stay at home mom, you feel you are a failure as a career woman," said Betsey Stevenson, Wharton.

Experts point out perhaps one of the achievements of the women's movement is they feel more honest and capable of being honest about their lack of happiness.
