Jury Convicts Nancy Ortiz of 2nd Degree Murder

Thursday, October 08, 2009

A jury reached a guilty verdict in the trial of the South Valley mother accused of abandoning three of her newborn children.

Nancy Ortiz hid her face and sobbed as the jury's verdict was read. Ortiz was convicted of second degree murder and felony child abuse.

Prosecutors say the Orosi woman abandoned three newborn babies between February 2005 and December 2006.

The first two babies survived, the third died. She faces up to life in prison when she's sentenced next month.
