A new citrus grove on the Fresno State campus could help local farmers facing a growing water shortage.

School officials planted the final tree on the 20-acre orchard Thursday morning.

The grove features a high-tech irrigation system designed to deliver different amounts of water, depending on the type of soil. The system currently costs more than current irrigation programs, but could reduce farmers water costs.

The special citrus grove was created on the campus with donations from paramount farms.
