FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Fresno Police are urging parents to "click and see" before sending their kids out to "trick or treat" this Halloween. About 12-hundred registered sex offenders live in the city of Fresno. Their names and addresses are available online, on the state's "Megan's Law" web site.
Some sex offenders are prohibited from leaving their lights on, or anything else that would invite trick or treaters. But Fresno Police say there's no state law that bans them from passing out candy.
Jeff Cardinale with the Fresno Police Department said, "Unless they have a specific condition as part of their parole that says they are not allowed to come in contact with children, they can open the door and they probably will open the door. They're probably going to act like everyone else and give out their Halloween candy."
Fresno Police are recommending parents log on to the Megan's Law website, to see if any sex offenders are registered nearby.
