Four schools in the valley were recognized in the nation's capitol for being among the best in the country.

Representatives from Bullard Talent, Manchester Gate, and Edison Computech Middle School in Fresno have each been named "Blue Ribbon Schools" for this year.

Sanger Unified's John Wash Elementary also received the award.

The Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors public and private schools that are either academically superior or demonstrate dramatic gains in student achievement.

Each school will receive a plaque and a flag signifying its blue ribbon status.

John Wash Elementary School's principal, Doctor Wesley Sever also picked up a separate award for outstanding school leadership.
