Barn Fire Lead to Drug Bust and Possible Murder Investigation

Wednesday, November 18, 2009

A fire in a barn near the town of Riverdale has lead to a major criminal investigation. When Kings County Sheriff's deputies and firefighters arrived at the burning barn on Wednesday morning, they spotted a young man removing marijuana plants from the burning building. Hours later, they discovered what appeared to be charred human remains in the rubble of the building.

Residents of the home adjacent to the barn reported a man who lived there was missing. He is believed to be the father of the young man who was moving the marijuana plants.

Robert Thayer of the Kings County Sheriff's Department says the young man was arrested on a probation violation. He says the Sheriff's Department is trying to determine first of all if the remains are human, and if they are those of the missing man.
