FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- The Fresno man accused of randomly shooting and killing a beer delivery driver last year pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity Tuesday morning.
Joey Lopez and Christopher Gonzalez were both arrested in December. Police say surveillance video shows Lopez firing three shots at the gas station on Palm and Belmont in downtown Fresno. Gonzalez was the driver.
Lopez's attorney says he had been placed in a mental hospital twice in the two days before the shooting. He was released just hours before the murders.
Two doctors will now assess his sanity before he goes on trial.
