Final 3 options chosen for Fulton Mall development

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A community advisory committee is looking at new ways to lure more people to Fresno's Fulton Mall.

Committee members reviewed ten alternative plans Tuesday night. The options came after a weeklong series of public workshops last month.

The committee selected three options. One would restore the mall, keeping it closed to vehicles, the other two open up the mall to traffic which is a popular option among business owners.

One commission member says Fulton Street was most vibrant in the 20's through 50's before it became a pedestrian mall.

"Why do we need to preserve something that is there currently and that has basically economically failed?" asked commission memberBrent Weiner.

Ultimately the City Council will have the final decision, but it's not even expected to go to a final vote until the spring of 2012. That's because the council needs to go through all three models before making a decision.
