Amber Alert continues in Porterville
FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Still no sign of 8-month old Sebastion and his mother but just within the last hour we heard from Sebastion's grandparents, who are also the parents of 18-year-old Monserrat Caracoza.
Through an interpreter they made an emotional plea to the public to help them find their grandson and daughter.
SPANISH "If you have any information &.if you have seen her please call us call the police so they can return safely,"Jesus and Maria Caracoza said.
They describe their daughter as a good person and Sebastion as a very sweet and kind baby.
Investigators here are following every lead they can to try to get the victims home safely.
Tulare County Sheriff's Detectives say 23-year-old Pedro Mosqueda broke in through this window to kidnap his 8-month-old son, Sebastion just before 2 a.m. Tuesday.
Investigators say Sebastion's mother and the suspect's estranged girlfriend, 18-year-old Monserrat Caracoza-- tried to run after Mosqueda.
"She exited the house approached the moving vehicle at the time, we're not sure if she got in willingly or was coerced or was removed forcibly," Lt. Keith Douglass said.
The sheriff's office says Pedro Mosqueda took off with Monserrat Caracoza and little Sebastion in a 1991 4-door red Honda Civic with California license # 5VOY539.
Caracoza lives with her parents, who were awakened by their daughter's screams alerting them that Mosqueda took the baby.
Deputies say the couple has a shaky past.
"There has been some history some I can't go into it but there currently is an active warrant for Mr. Mosqueda's arrest for domestic violence," Lt. Douglass said.
Sheriff Bill Wittman says this abduction case hits home particularly hard in light of the recent kidnapping and murder of an 8-year-old boy by his mother's ex-boyfriend in the North Valley.
Sheriff Wittman says he spent some time trying to comfort the boys grandparents.
"I have 5 grandchildren I know what I would be going through I'm sure they're going through the same thing and we're here to not only find the family for them but offer comfort or anything else we can through this ordeal."
Caracoza and Mosqueda also have a 2-year-old child who was also in the house at the time of the abduction. He is still with his grandparents at their house but they say he keeps asking for his mom and is not eating.
The statewide amber alert triggered a massive search by valley law enforcement officers. The 15-hour search for the missing baby and mother has covered a large area today. Many of the areas in Tulare County are remote ag-land, so airplanes have helped with peering down on orchards and foothill areas.
The Tulare Coutny Sheriff's Department has organized several search teams to cover a wide search perimeter Tuesday. That area included Poplar and the outskirts of Porterville.
They're looking for any sign of the suspect's red Civic.
Investigators have no idea if the he's still in the Central Valley, so they've contacted law enforcement from the bay area down to San Diego. Border patrol agents are also on alert. The FBI has also been called in to help.
Investigators have been collecting information about the suspect as they build a profile on him. It includes where he hangs out and who he hangs around with.
"We're checking with some of his old friends, where he used to live. We're following up on all those leads," Bill Whittman said.
Sheriff's Officials say they've been receiving tips from the public all day, but so far none have panned out.
Calls to police agencies all over the Central Valley are coming in when red late-model Honda Civics are spotted, so it's very important to note the license plate number. We want to show you that license plate number again.
The suspect's vehicle is a red four-door 1991 Honda Civic. Investigators are asking everyone to write down the license plate number. 5VOY539.
And here's another look at the suspect.
He is 23-year-old Pedro Mosqueda.
Officers don't believe he is armed, but they are concerned for baby Sebastian and his mother's safety. If you have any information, call 911.
