Two small quakes shake Central Valley

Sunday, October 30, 2011

The Valley was rattled by two small earthquakes on Sunday morning.

Both were centered near Kettleman City in Kings County.

The first happened just before 6:30 Sunday morning and measured 3.5 in magnitude.

The second, a 2.8 magnitude, happened just a few hours later at 11:03.

Very few people felt the shaking, and Dr. Stephen Lewis from Fresno State says that isn't surprising.

"In terms of the intensity of ground shaking even really close to the earthquake it would be classified as weak ground motion. So if people were moving around or mowing the lawn or driving a car they would never feel it," he said.

The United State Geological Survey says no damage or injuries were reported with either quake.
